A mass flow sensor responds to the amount of a fluid (usually a gas) flowing through a chamber containing the sensor. It is intended to be insensitive to the density of the fluid.

If the car doesn't feel like its performing right then there are a few possible things which could be causing it. 1) The mass air flow meter (MAF) has stopped working-this is easy to test though.
